No, the majority of wired fire detection systems are either directly monitored by the MFS or CFS (via ASE – Alarm Signalling Equipment) or designated security provider. If a Fire System is not monitored please call 000.
AS 1851 states that fire extinguishers should be serviced every six months, with the service date and service level to be recorded by stamping the metal service tag attached to the extinguisher. There are five different levels of extinguisher service that apply depending on the applicable AS1851 standard for the building.
Yes, optical type smoke sensors can falsely activate an alarm condition when a light refracting/distorting airborne contaminant is present. This could be from glue vapors, steam, dust, mist or similar material. Thermal detectors and firefighting sprinklers are susceptible to rapid changes in ambient temperature, or activation when a temperature set point is reached. If it is likely that building works could produce high temperatures or rapid increases in temperature adjacent thermal detection or sprinklers, it is recommended that you contact your incumbent service provider to enact the necessary precautions to prevent the SAMFS from attending a false alarm. With sprinkler installations, the risk of extensive water damage is particularly high with the potential for substantial damage costs. Additionally, consideration should be made for establishing additional fire safety measures while parts of the fire protection system are disabled; these may include additional firefighting equipment, and direct supervision.
